Our Story

Philly Born.
Melbourne Made.

A proper slice of South Philly, made in Melbourne the way it should be — one roll at a time.

Sparrow's Philly Cheesesteaks was born the way the best ideas often are — over beers with a close friend, talking late into the night. What started as a casual conversation turned into something we couldn't stop thinking about.

What We Stand For

No Compromises.

01 / The Meat Shaved Grade A steak on the grill
Grade A Steak

Properly shaved Grade A steak — not mystery meat, not chicken-fried steak. The real stuff, every single time.

02 / The Bread Fresh hoagie roll cross-section
Fresh Rolls Daily

Our hoagie rolls are baked fresh every day. A cheesesteak is only as good as the roll it sits in.

03 / The Cheese American cheese melting over Grade A steak
Topped Your Way

Topped with American, Provolone or Swiss!

The Journey

How We Got Here.

2013
We Started in The Catfish

Sparrow's launches inside The Catfish on Gertrude St, Fitzroy. Craft beer and proper Philly cheesesteaks — Melbourne gets it from day one.

2015
The Grumman Lands

We import a food truck from the USA — a Grumman Kurbmaster, the proper Philly diner-on-wheels. The yellow rig becomes the icon.

Now
Still Going Strong

Two fixed spots — The Catfish in Fitzroy, and the Grumman truck at Retropolis in Preston. Over a decade in, we're still making every cheesesteak like it's the first one.
